Residents should expect and prepare for widespread power outages as Hurricane Michael crosses Holmes County, according to officials from Gulf Power and West Florida Electric. Once the power goes out, it will likely not be restored for an extended period of time.
Utility officials stationed at the Holmes County Emergency Operations Center are advising residents to take the following precautions:
Do not approach downed power lines.
Turn off all appliances when electricity is lost, and do not turn them back on until power is restored.
Do not attempt to connect a portable generator to household electric service. Do not try and backfeed a home.
Never operate a generator in an enclosed space (garage, covered porch, below a window, etc.)
